Gay sex tape prompts Rutgers frosh Tyler Clementi to suicide

ABC News reports a somber scene at Rutgers University after news of Tyler Clementi’s suicide over the surreptitious live online broadcast of his homosexual encounter spread. According to reports, fellow students Ravi and Wei were responsible for secretly monitoring Clementi with a webcam during a same-sex intimate encounter and broadcasting the encounter live on the Internet. Soon after his horrific online outing, Tyler Clementi signed off on Facebook and signed out of life by jumping off a bridge.

A goodbye was what Tyler Clementi told everyone

On September 22 at 8:42 p.m., Tyler Clementi’s Facebook post read “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.” The body of Clementi has not been found yet, however there was a body discovered just north of the bridge on the Hudson River. New Jersey authorities were the ones to discover the body. Clementi’s Rutgers University ID was discovered in a wallet nearby. There was also his driver’s license contained within the wallet.

Paul Mainardi, attorney for the Clementi family, verified Tyler Clementi’s suicide via a statement in which the young man is praised for his outstanding personal qualities and his distinguished musicianship.

Listening to all over the place, ‘I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.’

Fellow Rutgers Scarlet Knights Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are charged with 2 counts apiece of invasion of privacy for transmitting Tyler Clementi’s homosexual encounter via iChat, according to prosecutor Bruce Kaplan. Ravi even made note of the incident on his Twitter page, where he tweeted on September 19 that:

“Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.”

Two days after the initial broadcast, Ravi tweeted again:

“Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it is happening again.”

Wei and Ravi turned themselves in to law enforcement

Wei and Ravi have both left New Jersey police custody after surrendering themselves to the police. ABC News reports that Ravi had to pay a $25,000 bail although Wei just paid her own recognizance. There can be more news to come.
