Last-Minute Christmas Eve Activities and Ideas

Christmas Eve and many last chances

What to do on Christmas Day once the fun is done.

What to do on Christmas Day once the fun is done.

If you are wondering whether a certain business will be open on Christmas Day, it likely is safe to assume that it is not. Today is the last day to prepare for Christmas Day, so make sure you think through all of the stuff you need to do. If your shopping isn’t done, it’s going to be crazy out there. You’ll need to allow extra time.

Plus, don’t assume stores will be open until the regular time on Christmas Eve. Even my gym closes early on Christmas Eve. I’m glad it only closes a few hours early. Let’s just say my gym fees are a lot more than the lenders’ fees on bad credit installment loans.

Ready, set, rest

So here is what I want you to think about: traditional Christmas Day activities usually take only a couple of hours, tops. Get up, open stockings and presents, have breakfast and then … what? Kids usually are happy to spend the rest of the day playing with their new toys.

However, if you’re an adult who has the day off work, there is usually little to do thanks to the fact that everything is closed. You need to be prepared. Make sure you’ve got everything you need, including entertainment, today. Resting at home all day might sound like a nice, refreshing idea, and it is, but usually a few hours of “doing nothing” is plenty.

Out on video

Movie theaters are usually open on Christmas Day, but who wants to brave the snow and the ridiculousness out there, especially when the kids just want to try out their new stuff? A trip to the video rental store might serve you well today.

New DVDs come out on Tuesdays, and this week Golden-Globe nominated comedy “(500) Days of Summer” came out on video. The highly acclaimed “District 9,” which is a sci-fi thriller about alien refugees, is also out this week. “Extract” didn’t get a whole lot of attention when it was in theaters, despite the fact that the famous Mike Judge directed it. Mike Judge is reponsible for some of the most popular shows on television right now, including “The Office.” Though this comedy starring Jason Bateman didn’t inspire a whole lot of people to pay movie-ticket prices, it might be worth the rental fee.

Plan ahead for play time

Another useful service is video game rental. Especially if you are getting someone a video gaming system as a gift, renting games is a great way to try them out and find out whether they’re worth purchasing. The Wii has gotten a lot more people interested in playing video games because of its wide range of different kinds of games, so try out a few types to figure out what you like.

Another thing to remember is batteries and other details that are essential to being able to use your new things. Most importantly, before you venture out on Christmas Eve to wrap up the final errands, make a thorough list of everything you need to do.
