Infantino Sling Rider recall – more than 1 million products affected

1 million products can be taken off the market due to a baby sling recall by Infantino, referred to as the “Infantino Sling Rider Recall”, that will affect the “slingrider” and “Wendy Bellissimo” models. That’s 1 million from the U.S. and 15,000 in Canada, reports the Chicago Tribune. The stuff of nightmares for parents of infants is that an innocent baby sling could cause their child less than four months to suffocate; catching the problem is a sigh of relief, not unlike the relief of knowing you can help with the ER bill by using payday loans online.

In 2009 three related infant suffocation deaths took place, according to a US consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on March 24 report about the baby sling recall. Apparently, the Infantino slings in question could potentially tangle a young baby in its folds and cut off his or her oxygen supply. Why it took almost the entire first quarter of 2010 before a recall was put into effect is a question for the legal experts.

Parents, don’t attempt to repair your Infantino Sling Rider recall sling

That’s something Infantino recommends families NOT to do in the official Infantino Sling Rider recall notice. If parents are unclear about what type of sling they’ve got, they should look at the plastic slide piece on the strap. ”Infantino” should be labeled on it. On the inside of the carrier part of the SlingRider sling, there should be a printed instruction/warning tag. The CPSC indicates how the “Wendy Bellissimo” has “a sewn-in label on the inside of the sling strap that says in part ‘Wendy Bellissimo Media, Inc.’ and lists Item numbers 3937500H7and 3937501H7.”

Where were these defective products sold?

SlingRider and Wendy Bellissimo were manufactured in China and Thailand, and were in stores between January 2003 and March 2010. According to the Tribune, Wendy Bellissimo was only sold as Babies “R” Us while Slingrider was sold at numerous locations such as Target, Burlington Coat Factory, Wal-Mart, and Amazon.com.

What does Infantino plan to do to make up for the recall?

They’re offering a replacement with one of the following products:

  • Wrap & Tie infant carrier
  • 2 in 1 Purchasing Cart Cover
  • 3 in 1 Grow & Play Activity Gym

Furthermore, they’re sending customers affected by the baby sling recall a Jittery Pals Rattle.
